Sometimes the best thing we can do for your family is help you stay out of court. If you and the other party are on the same page — or close to it — mediation can get you to a real resolution faster, more affordably, and with a lot less stress than traditional litigation. At Brittany Blau Law, both Brittany Blau and paralegal Cristina Brown are trained mediators, and we're here to help you find a path forward that works for everyone involved.
So what exactly is mediation? Mediation is a private, voluntary process where a neutral third party — the mediator — sits down with both of you and helps you work through the issues that need to be resolved. The mediator isn't a judge. They're not there to take sides or tell you what to do. They're there to help you communicate, understand each other's priorities, and build an agreement that you both actually feel good about. Most mediation matters are resolved in just one or a few sessions — and anything you agree to can be put into writing and, where required, submitted to the Court for approval.
Who is mediation a good fit for? Mediation works really well for a lot of different situations. You might be a great candidate if:
You're going through a divorce and want to keep it simple. If you and your spouse have no minor children and are in agreement on the big things — or just need a little help sorting out the details — mediation can get you to a finalized dissolution without a drawn-out court battle.
You need a parenting plan that actually works for your kids. Whether you're going through a divorce, establishing paternity, or just starting co-parenting from scratch, we can help you build a parenting time schedule and custody arrangement that fits your family's real life.
You already have an order and things need to change. Kids grow up, jobs change, people move. If you and the other parent are open to updating a custody or support arrangement without going back to court, mediation is often the fastest and least disruptive way to get there.
You just want to avoid court — period. Litigation is expensive, time-consuming, and emotionally exhausting. If there's a better way, we'll help you find it.
What can we help you resolve?
Divorce and property division
Parenting time schedules and custody arrangements
Child support agreements
Post-decree modifications to existing orders
Co-parenting communication and planning
What does the process look like? You'll start with a brief consultation so we can learn about your situation and make sure mediation is the right fit. From there, we'll schedule your mediation session — sessions are held in a comfortable, private setting, and we can meet with both of you together, separately, or a combination of both, depending on what works best. Most people are surprised by how much can get resolved in a single session when there's a skilled mediator guiding the conversation. A quick note: As mediators, we serve as neutral facilitators — we don't represent either party. We always encourage both parties to consult with their own attorney before signing any final agreement.
